Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien

The Tchaikovsky is a very difficult work and one that was for at least 20 years only taken up by the senior orchestra. The amazing development of the Associate Orchestra over the past number of years has allowed us to now program works that once were only in the domain of the senior orchestra, which I find very gratifying. Having said that, I do want to stress that this Tchaikovsky work will require an immense amount of practice on your part. Although the performance of this work is in March, on our Festival Concert, it is imperative to begin slowly practicing it and working on it NOW.

This is a good recording, by a Russian Orchestra (therefore, they should know what they are doing playing a famous work by a Russian composer!), and the tempos are pretty solid, including the fast Saltarello section beginning at the Presto (measure 291).
